What’s in the pack? How do I make the solution?

There are 4 packets in this kit, 5 pack if you also selected the Fe DTPA along with the EI kit.

3 white powder and 1 green. All three white powder will go together into bottle1 with 2 litre of water

Green powder (Micro) will go into second bottle - bottle2 with 2 litre of water.

The Fe dtpa can be added to a third bottle with 2 liter water.

The water used should be ideally RO/ distillled water. If RO water is not available, you can use tap water after boiling and letting it cool before mixing.

Can I make stock solution of 1 litre macro and micro instead of 2 liters?

If two litre bottles are not available you can also make 1 litre stock solution with the same amount of fertilizer. Only that the dosage ml will be half (5ml per 50litre of aquarium water) since the solution is double concentrated.

If RO / distilled water is not feasible, boil tap water and let it cool then you can mix

What is the Dosage ->> EI is Estimative index. So the name suggest it’s based on estimation. Nothing is a hard rule. Everything below is just a guideline. With 2 litre stock solution dosage quantity is 10ml per 50 litre of Aquarium water, for both macro and micro if the Tank is densely planted, else you can reduce the dosage....you can use your judgement. Daily dosing is required alternating between micro and macro

Dosage Schedule:

Day1 macro, Day 2 micro, Day3 macro and likewise.....dose after lights off at night.

Fe (if brought) should be dosed daily morning after lights on.

Here’s the detailed step-by-step breakdown of the calculation for the final PPM values of Potassium (K), Phosphate (P), and Nitrate (N) when dosing 20 grams of KH2PO4, 80 grams of KNO3, and 120 grams of MgSO4 into 2 liters of water and then dosing 10 ml of that solution into a 50-liter tank.

Step 1: Molecular Weights

We first need the molecular weights of the compounds:

• KH2PO4 (Monopotassium Phosphate):
  • Potassium (K) = 39.1 g/mol
  • Hydrogen (H) = 1.008 g/mol
  • Phosphorus (P) = 30.97 g/mol
  • Oxygen (O) = 16 g/mol
  • Total molecular weight of KH2PO4 = 39.1 + (2 × 1.008) + 30.97 + (4 × 16) = 136.086 g/mol
• KNO3 (Potassium Nitrate):
  • Potassium (K) = 39.1 g/mol
  • Nitrogen (N) = 14 g/mol
  • Oxygen (O) = 16 g/mol × 3 = 48 g/mol
  • Total molecular weight of KNO3 = 39.1 + 14 + 48 = 101.1 g/mol
• MgSO4 (Magnesium Sulfate):
  • Magnesium (Mg) = 24.305 g/mol
  • Sulfur (S) = 32.065 g/mol
  • Oxygen (O) = 16 g/mol × 4 = 64 g/mol
  • Total molecular weight of MgSO4 = 24.305 + 32.065 + 64 = 120.37 g/mol

Step 2: Moles of Each Compound

We calculate how many moles of each compound are present based on the given weight.

• KH2PO4: $\text{Moles of KH2PO4}=\frac{20\text{g}}{136.086\text{g/mol}}\approx 0.147\text{moles}$Moles of KH2PO4=136.086 g/mol20 g≈0.147 moles
• KNO3: $\text{Moles of KNO3}=\frac{80\text{g}}{101.1\text{g/mol}}\approx 0.791\text{moles}$Moles of KNO3=101.1 g/mol80 g≈0.791 moles
• MgSO4:
  (not used in NPK, so we omit it for this calculation)

Step 3: Calculating Amount of Potassium (K), Phosphorus (P), and Nitrogen (N)

Now we calculate the amount of each nutrient provided by the moles of KH2PO4 and KNO3.

Potassium (K):

• Potassium (K) comes from both KH2PO4 and KNO3.
  • From KH2PO4: $\text{Potassium from KH2PO4}=0.147\text{moles}\times 39.1\text{g/mol}\times 1000=5747.7\text{mg}$Potassium from KH2PO4=0.147 moles×39.1 g/mol×1000=5747.7 mg
  • From KNO3: $\text{Potassium from KNO3}=0.791\text{moles}\times 39.1\text{g/mol}\times 1000=30936.1\text{mg}$Potassium from KNO3=0.791 moles×39.1 g/mol×1000=30936.1 mg
  • Total Potassium: $5747.7+30936.1=36683.8\text{mg}$5747.7+30936.1=36683.8 mg

Phosphorus (P):

• Phosphorus (P) comes from KH2PO4.
  • From KH2PO4: $\text{Phosphorus from KH2PO4}=0.147\text{moles}\times 30.97\text{g/mol}\times 1000=4551.53\text{mg}$Phosphorus from KH2PO4=0.147 moles×30.97 g/mol×1000=4551.53 mg

Nitrogen (N):

• Nitrogen (N) comes from KNO3.
  • From KNO3: $\text{Nitrogen from KNO3}=0.791\text{moles}\times 14\text{g/mol}\times 1000=11078.14\text{mg}$Nitrogen from KNO3=0.791 moles×14 g/mol×1000=11078.14 mg

Step 4: Concentration of Nutrients in 2 Liters of Solution

Now, we calculate the concentration of these nutrients in 2 liters (2000 ml) of water:

• Potassium (K): $\text{Concentration of K}=\frac{36683.8\text{mg}}{2000\text{ml}}=18.34\text{mg/ml}$Concentration of K=2000 ml36683.8 mg=18.34 mg/ml

Step 5: Dosing 10 ml of Solution into 50 Liters of Water

When you dose 10 ml of this solution into 50 liters of water, you get the following amounts:

• Potassium (K): $\text{K dosed}=10\text{ml}\times 18.34\text{mg/ml}=183.4\text{mg}$K dosed=10 ml×18.34 mg/ml=183.4 mg
• Phosphorus (P): $\text{P dosed}=10\text{ml}\times 2.28\text{mg/ml}=22.8\text{mg}$P dosed=10 ml×2.28 mg/ml=22.8 mg
• Nitrogen (N): $\text{N dosed}=10\text{ml}\times 5.54\text{mg/ml}=55.4\text{mg}$N dosed=10 ml×5.54 mg/ml=55.4 mg

Step 6: Final PPM in 50 Liters of Water

To find the final PPM in the 50-liter aquarium:

• Potassium (K): $\text{Final PPM of K}=\frac{183.4\text{mg}}{50\text{liters}}=3.67\text{ppm}$Final PPM of K=50 liters183.4 mg=3.67 ppm

Final PPM Values:

• Potassium (K): ~3.67 ppm
• Phosphorus (P): ~0.46 ppm
• Nitrogen (N): ~1.11 ppm

Storage: Store the bottles in a cool dark place. Away from direct sunlight(below the tank if you have a cabinet), alternatively store in a black coloured bottle. Else it may catch algae.

Apart from this macro and micro you do not need to dose any other kind of fertiliser for your plants. While CO2 is not compulsory, it greatly improves plant health. For best results....It is always recommended to include a pressurised CO2 kit for your planted tank.
